Our Partners
Our most important resource is our partners. Our partners include people who’ve been going to the track for 50 years as well as folks who just recently became interested in racing. A number of us have owned partnership shares in other horses; a few of us, in fact, are veterans of several Internet-based syndicates.
Among us, we have a variety of talents, from computer skills to photography (as displayed on this site) to tennis, finance and law, not to mention our shared interest in racing.
Many of us are avid handicappers. A few of us actually keep horses at home, though not the racing kind. Our strength is that, together, we know more than any one of us could possibly know alone. By sharing our knowledge and insights, we’re able, we hope, to make better decisions.
Our Trainers
Our principal trainer in New York is Bill Turner, perhaps best know as trainer of the Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew. More recently, Bill's had the graded-horses Punch Line, Gaviola and Finery.
What we like about Bill's training methods are the care that he devotes to each individual horse, and the patience he displays in bringing horses to the races only when they're ready. That requires patience on our part as well, but in the long run it's better for the horse.
Our other principal New York trainer is Leah Gyarmati, who trains for our claiming partnerships and for the original Castle Village Farm 1999 partnership. Leah was Castle Village Farm’s first trainer, beginning in 1999, and she currently trains Flippy Diane's babies, Flip de Lite and Unconcerned, for that original group. She began her training career with our mare Flippy Diane, whom we claimed for $20,000 and who won the $100,000 Maryland Million Distaff for us in Flippy’s second start off the claim. Overall, Leah has a very solid record, with 11% wins in her career. Equally important, she understands how Castle Village Farm operates, and she is not bothered by having large numbers of owners.
Our Managing Partner
Steve Zorn has been following racing since he was in high school. Steve is a lawyer who has also been a technical adviser at the United Nations, a Wall Street tax attorney and a law professor at Pace University. More important, for our purposes, he has participated in a variety of racing partnerships, including Virtual Owners Partnership, Cyberspace Racing Team and LSI Gold Stables. Steve devotes substantial time to coordinating the work of Castle Village Farm and performs the legal and tax accounting work for the partnership (at no charge).
Director of Client Development
Richard Munk got involved in the racing business in 1996 when he began selling racehorse partnerships. In October of 2002 he met with Steve Zorn for a few hours, and left the meeting with the sense that Castle Village Farm was in very good hands. As Director of Client Development, Richard is not only involved in selling racehorse partnerships, but is also involved with the clients, helping them get their owners license, etc. Richard can be reached toll free, at 888-989-RACE (7223), Monday thru Friday, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST, or by E-mail at : Sugarmunk@aol.com
